In The Know

As the beautiful Fall season is approaching, a lot of fun activities are available. From apple orchards to corn mazes it’s fun to explore the Asheville area with your kiddos.

Hendersonville, NC is the home to a lovely apple orchard called “Sky Top Orchard” General admission is FREE. They have many activities to keep your little “busy bodies” happy. Plan for your child to wear comfortable shoes and play clothes that you don’t mind them getting a little mud on. They have a huge playground full of swings, playhouses, ladders and slides. (Parents can enjoy an apple slushy or fresh apple donut while watching the kids explore.) After playing on the playground you can head over to the bamboo forest. My little one loves going in and pretending he’s on a “bear hunt”. They also have a petting zoo full of adorable little furry creatures awaiting a back-rub. I always take extra hand sanitizer to make sure we keep clean hands. We save picking apples until last so we don’t have to tote them around. Whether you want to go let your kids just play around or go pick apples, this is an adventure you must do this Fall. For more details visit: SkyTopOrchard.com.

The Eliada Home hosts one of the largest Corn Mazes in WNC each Fall. Admission is as follows:

The Corn Maze is open Thursday-Sunday. They have an activity for every age! There’s a toddler maze, which is a small maze made with bales of hay. There’s a “Storybook Trail” which is wonderful for your younger kiddos to early teens. Then there’s the “Main Maze” which is a 12 acre maze! They also have slides, corn pits, hayrides, food, live music etc. This is a family fun event you don’t want to miss. If your children are homeschooled or you want them to volunteer, the shifts are 3 hours and you receive a snack, drink and two free tickets to return to the maze at a later date. This Fall they have several events. “Live after Five” is going on through October 25th on Friday and Saturday nights. This is included in general admission. Fall at Biltmore is October 1st to November 6th. This is the peak time to see the beautiful colors in the gardens. There are several more events you can review on their website: Biltmore.com.

The Carl Sandburg home is nestled in Flat Rock, NC. This is a family friendly hiking trail. There are multiple trails from “easy” to “intermediate”. Another great thing about this location is the petting zoo. You can tour the barns and more. The general admission is FREE which makes this a “fall must do”.
