Occupational therapy is very beneficial in providing caregivers and the child with a road map and guide on how to be successful in the child's everyday activities. OTs are skilled at breaking an activity down into it's smallest parts and presenting it to a child in a way they can be succcessful. This in turn increases confidence and motivation for the child to try new challenges and persist with tasks that may be difficult for them. Caregivers often see a reduction in tantrums and melt-downs when the expectations for the child are a "just right challenge". This can be difficult to figure out as each child is complex and may present with differing skill levels in different areas with many other factors affecting their ability to complete a task. With a positive team approach and guidance and support from a skilled OT, there are no limits to what a child can achieve.
